Early Life and Family

Carlo Acutis was born in London, England, on May 3, 1991, to Italian parents Andrea Acutis and Antonia Salzano. The family soon returned to Milan, Italy, where Carlo spent the majority of his life. From an early age, he displayed an unusual piety, attending daily Mass, praying the Rosary, and developing a deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Eucharist.

Education and Interests

Carlo attended local schools in Milan and was known for his cheerful personality, kindness, and willingness to help classmates who struggled academically or socially. He was especially gifted with computers, self-teaching programming, and website design. Carlo used these talents to serve God, particularly by creating an extensive website cataloguing Eucharistic miracles from around the world.

Faith and Spirituality

Carlo’s deep faith was evident in his daily life. He attended Eucharistic Adoration regularly, confessed frequently, and was known for his acts of charity, especially toward the poor and marginalized. He once said, “The Eucharist is my highway to heaven.” This central theme guided his actions and inspired his peers.

Illness and Death

At the age of 15, Carlo was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia. He endured his illness with patience, offering his sufferings for the Pope and the Church. He died in Monza, Italy, on October 12, 2006.

Beatification and Veneration

The cause for Carlo’s canonization began in 2013, and he was declared Venerable by Pope Francis on July 5, 2018. Carlo was beatified on October 10, 2020, in Assisi, Italy, following the recognition of a miracle attributed to his intercession. His body rests in the Sanctuary of the Spoliation in Assisi, dressed in casual clothes and sneakers, symbolizing his approachable holiness.

Patronage

Saint Carlo Acutis is proposed as the patron of the internet, computer programmers, and youth, especially those engaged in digital evangelization. Many believe his life models how technology can be used for the glory of God and the service of humanity.

Feast Day

The feast day of Saint Carlo Acutis is celebrated on October 12, the anniversary of his death.
